A tragic shooting outside a bar in Austin has left one man dead and several others injured late Friday night, according to authorities.
Officers with the Austin Police Department responded around 8:40 p.m. to reports of a disturbance at the Cabana Club, located on East 7th Street. Upon arrival, they discovered an adult male suffering from severe traumatic injuries.
Emergency responders immediately began life-saving efforts, but the victim—later identified as Zach Barr—was pronounced dead at approximately 9:02 p.m.
Investigators say the incident began as an altercation among a group of individuals in the back area of the bar, which quickly escalated into gunfire. Multiple other people were injured during the incident and either transported themselves or were taken to nearby hospitals. The extent of their injuries has not yet been disclosed.
Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators worked late into the night to process the scene and gather evidence. Authorities confirmed that no weapon has been recovered, and no arrests have been made at this time.
Police also noted that many individuals involved had already left the scene before officers arrived, complicating the early stages of the investigation. The bar was shut down as officials worked to collect statements and piece together the events leading up to the shooting.
According to investigators, the incident appears to be isolated, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
An Austin Police spokesperson extended condolences to the victim’s family, emphasizing that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible. Officials confirmed that this marks the city’s 20th homicide of the year.
The investigation remains active, and anyone with information is urged to contact authorities.
