A late-night shooting on the South Side of Chicago has left a 25-year-old woman dead and a 36-year-old man injured, according to police.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 11:45 p.m. in the 8000 block of South Morgan Street. Upon arrival, authorities discovered two individuals who had been shot while standing outside in a group.
According to preliminary findings, an unknown offender approached the gathering, produced a firearm, and opened fire into the group before fleeing the scene in a silver sedan.
The 25-year-old woman sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body and was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
A 36-year-old man was also struck, suffering gunshot wounds to the abdomen and right calf. He was transported to Christ Hospital and is currently listed in fair condition.
Investigators revealed that prior to the shooting, there had been a verbal altercation between two separate parties within the group. It remains unclear if that dispute is directly connected to the gunfire.
No other injuries were reported.
Detectives from Area Two are actively investigating the incident and working to identify the suspect, who remains at large.
