An investigation is underway in north Houston after a man died following a struggle with a police sergeant during a traffic stop early Saturday morning, authorities said.
The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. in the 5300 block of Airline Drive. Houston police report that a sergeant initiated a traffic stop involving a male driver, who then pulled into a parking lot and exited his vehicle.
According to officials, the situation escalated when the sergeant attempted to detain the suspect, leading to a physical altercation. Both men reportedly fell to the ground during the struggle.
Authorities said the suspect continued resisting, and during the fight, the sergeant’s firearm was discharged. The man fled the scene but was later found nearby suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Officers rendered emergency aid before transporting him to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
At this stage, the identities of both the suspect and the sergeant have not been released. The case is now being reviewed by Houston Police internal affairs, special investigations units, and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
Officials say the investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the fatal shooting.
