A tragic crash in North Las Vegas has claimed the lives of two individuals following a devastating collision involving a passenger vehicle and a tractor-trailer on Thursday afternoon.
According to authorities, officers with the North Las Vegas Police Department responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash around 4:17 p.m. on April 9 near the intersection of Simmons Street and Citizen Avenue. Upon arrival, first responders found both vehicles fully engulfed in flames.
Emergency crews from the North Las Vegas Fire Department and Las Vegas Fire & Rescue worked quickly to extinguish the blaze. Despite their efforts, both drivers involved in the collision were pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a Dodge Challenger was traveling northbound on Simmons Street at a high rate of speed when it collided with a Freightliner tractor-trailer. The semi-truck was reportedly attempting to make a left turn into an industrial complex from the southbound lanes, crossing into the path of the oncoming vehicle.
The force of the impact resulted in a massive fire, consuming both vehicles and leaving little chance for survival.
Due to the severity of the crash, authorities closed Simmons Street between Carey Avenue and Evans Avenue for several hours as investigators processed the scene and worked to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Officials have not yet released the identities of the victims, and the investigation remains ongoing.
This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with high-speed driving and roadway collisions, particularly involving large commercial vehicles.
