France Child Abuse Case: 9-Year-Old Found Locked in Van Since 2024, Avoid Death, Father Arrested
A deeply disturbing case has emerged from Hagenbach, where a 9-year-old boy was discovered locked inside a van for over a year, prompting shock and outrage across the country.
Authorities say the child had been confined inside the vehicle since November 2024. The case came to light when a concerned neighbor reported hearing what sounded like a child’s voice coming from the van. Police responded and made the grim discovery.

ccording to prosecutors, the boy was found in extremely poor condition—lying in a fetal position, naked, and covered by a blanket atop a pile of trash near human waste. He was severely malnourished and reportedly unable to walk at the time of his rescue.
The child’s father has been arrested and charged with preliminary kidnapping and other related offenses. He remains in custody as the investigation continues. The father allegedly told authorities that he confined the boy “to protect him” from his partner, who he claimed wanted to place the child in a psychiatric institution. However, prosecutors stated there was no history of psychiatric issues and that the boy had previously performed well in school.
The father’s partner has also been charged with failure to assist a minor, though she reportedly claimed she was unaware the child was being held in the van.
Investigators revealed that the boy told them he had not bathed since 2024 and had experienced ongoing difficulties with his father’s partner. He reportedly believed his father “had no choice” but to keep him confined.
Two other children connected to the household have since been taken into protective custody.
Officials are continuing to investigate whether others may have known about the situation. It was reported that friends and family had been told the child was receiving psychiatric care, while his school believed he had transferred elsewhere.
This shocking case has raised serious concerns about child welfare oversight and the ability for such prolonged abuse to go unnoticed.
More updates are expected as authorities continue their investigation.
