The community of KwaZulu-Natal is rallying around the grieving family of Sihle Makhaye, whose alleged death in Russia has left his wife pleading for help to bring his remains back home.
According to his wife, Sbonile Ndwandwe, the father of her children traveled to Russia in December 2025 after reportedly being recruited by an agent along with a group of other men. She said she received a call on March 28, 2026, informing her of his death, leaving her devastated and searching for answers.
Ndwandwe, a mother of three from the Umzinyathi District Municipality in Kranskop, says she has been unable to contact the recruiter or obtain clear details surrounding her husband’s death. With no financial means to arrange burial or cremation abroad, she is now appealing for government assistance to repatriate his remains to South Africa.
She has reached out to Siboniso Duma and local officials, hoping for support in bringing her husband home so he can be laid to rest among his family.
The tragic situation highlights the challenges faced by families when loved ones travel abroad under uncertain circumstances, leaving them with unanswered questions and financial burdens in times of loss.
As the family continues to seek help, the focus remains on honoring Sihle Makhaye’s life and ensuring he is returned home with dignity.
