A deep sense of sorrow has gripped the community following the tragic death of Sri Nanda, a 14-year-old Class 10 student from Palakkad, Kerala, who went missing during a family hiking trip in Karnataka and was later found deceased after an extensive four-day search.
Sri Nanda had been traveling with a large family group of around 40 relatives when the incident occurred during a visit to the Chandradrona hill range in Chikkamagaluru district. After arriving in the area on April 7, the group visited several tourist locations, including Hampi, before continuing their journey into the hills for a hike.
According to reports, Sri Nanda was last seen in the Manikyadhara region during the trek as daylight faded. When she failed to return to the group, concern quickly spread, and family members immediately began searching the area before alerting authorities.
A large-scale search operation was launched involving police teams, rescue personnel, drones, and specialized equipment to navigate the steep and difficult terrain. Despite continuous efforts over several days, no immediate trace of her was found, deepening the anxiety and heartbreak felt by her family.
Four days later, her body was discovered in a valley nearly 1,500 feet below the Manikyadhara viewpoint. Officials have stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether it was an accident or if other factors were involved.
Her family, devastated by the loss, has expressed profound grief and concern, struggling to come to terms with the sudden and tragic end to her life. What was meant to be a family trip has now turned into an unimaginable tragedy that has left both Kerala and Karnataka communities mourning.
Sri Nanda is remembered as a young student full of promise, with her entire future ahead of her. Her passing has left an irreplaceable void in the lives of her loved ones, classmates, and all who knew her.
As the investigation continues, the family is receiving support and condolences from the wider community during this deeply painful time.
May Sri Nanda rest in peace, and may her family find strength, comfort, and support in the days ahead.
