A tragic early-morning shooting at a private party in west Houston has left one person dead and another fighting for their life, according to authorities.
The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. on April 11 in the 5700 block of South Gessner Road. Houston police say officers responded to reports of gunfire at a venue that had been rented out for a gathering.
Preliminary information indicates that an altercation broke out among attendees, escalating into violence that resulted in two individuals being shot.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a male victim—believed to be between 17 and 19 years old—suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second victim was located with a gunshot wound to the stomach and was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
At this time, authorities have not released the identities of the victims, and the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear. Investigators continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses to determine what sparked the altercation.
