Authorities in Smyrna are investigating an officer-involved use of force incident involving 59-year-old Christopher Jones that occurred Saturday afternoon.
According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Smyrna Police Department officers were dispatched to the 200 block of North Lowry Street following reports of a domestic disturbance.
Upon arrival, Jones reportedly fled the scene. Officials say the situation escalated shortly afterward when Jones, who was believed to be armed, allegedly advanced toward officers in a threatening manner.
Police stated that, in response to the perceived threat, an officer deployed a non-lethal weapon to subdue him. The round struck Jones, and he was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities confirmed that no officers were injured during the incident, and no other injuries were reported. Police also stated that there was no ongoing threat to the public and that the situation was quickly brought under control.
Officials noted that Jones is known to law enforcement and has a history of making threats toward officers and frequently being armed.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
