The Linn County, Oregon community is mourning the tragic loss of Kayla Marie Fonseca and Ashley Sue Fraley, who both died in a devastating head-on collision on Highway 34.
According to the Oregon State Police, the crash occurred on April 11, 2026, at approximately 6:43 p.m. near milepost 14. Preliminary reports indicate that a gray Hyundai Elantra was traveling westbound when it encountered wet and hazardous road conditions. Authorities say the vehicle hydroplaned, causing the driver to lose control and cross into the opposite lane of traffic.
The Hyundai then collided head-on with a blue BMW driven by Ashley Sue Fraley, which was traveling eastbound. The impact caused severe damage to both vehicles and prompted an immediate emergency response from first responders.
Officials confirmed that Kayla Marie Fonseca, a passenger in the Hyundai, was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of her injuries. Ashley Sue Fraley, the driver of the BMW, also died at the scene.
The driver of the Hyundai survived but sustained significant injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Highway 34 was closed for several hours as investigators worked to document evidence and reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the crash. Multiple agencies assisted in the response and investigation.
As the inquiry continues, authorities have emphasized caution regarding wet road conditions and the dangers of hydroplaning on rural highways.
