The Jacksonville community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Chris Payton-Jones, a former professional football player and beloved mentor, who tragically passed away in an auto accident on Saturday night at the age of 30.
A standout athlete at Sandalwood High School, Payton-Jones was known for his dedication, discipline, and relentless work ethic. He went on to play college football at the University of Nebraska, where he earned his degree in sociology before pursuing a professional career.
Despite going undrafted in 2018, Payton-Jones fought his way into the NFL, spending time with multiple teams and appearing in 29 games, including six starts. He later continued his football journey in leagues such as the XFL and UFL, most recently playing for the St. Louis Battlehawks before retiring earlier this year.
Beyond his achievements on the field, Payton-Jones made a powerful impact off it. He built a successful media brand, Flashflix, and became a respected photographer, videographer, and content creator. His work, particularly in high school sports, earned him widespread recognition, with his YouTube channel generating over a million views in a short time.
He was deeply committed to mentoring young athletes and aspiring creators, often seen on the sidelines guiding others both in sports and media. Friends, coaches, and community members remember him as a genuine, positive, and hardworking individual who consistently uplifted those around him.
