Asha Bhosle, one of India’s most celebrated and influential playback singers, has died at the age of 92 in Mumbai following complications from a chest infection and multi-organ failure, according to hospital officials.
She passed away at Breach Candy Hospital after being admitted with severe exhaustion and a respiratory infection. Medical reports confirmed that her condition worsened rapidly, leading to multi-organ failure despite treatment efforts.
Her son, Anand Bhosle, confirmed the news outside the hospital, noting that she passed away peacefully and that final rites would be conducted at Shivaji Park following public viewing at the family residence.
Asha Bhosle’s passing marks the end of an extraordinary musical era. Over a career spanning more than eight decades, she became one of the most versatile and iconic voices in Indian cinema, contributing thousands of songs across multiple languages and genres. Her work helped define generations of Bollywood music and earned her a lasting place in cultural history.
Medical experts noted that chest infections in very elderly patients often present with subtle early warning signs such as extreme fatigue or weakness, as the body’s immune response weakens with age. In Bhosle’s case, exhaustion reportedly preceded more severe symptoms, reflecting the risks faced by elderly individuals with respiratory infections.
Tributes from across the music and film industry have begun pouring in, honoring her unmatched legacy, artistic versatility, and the emotional depth she brought to Indian music.
Asha Bhosle will be remembered not only for her extraordinary voice but also for her lasting influence on global music culture.
