A frightening crash in Tulsa left a vehicle carrying two teenagers and a 1-year-old child severely damaged after it fell from a bridge onto Interstate 244, authorities said. Remarkably, no deaths were reported.
The incident occurred around 5 a.m. on Saturday near Southwest Boulevard and I-244, when a 17-year-old driver allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign at 25th West Avenue and Southwest Boulevard. The vehicle struck a curb, became airborne over a drainage area, crashed through a fence, and plunged approximately 15 feet onto the interstate below, landing on its roof.
Inside the vehicle were an 18-year-old passenger and a 1-year-old child. Police confirmed that the child was not properly secured in a car seat at the time of the crash.
Emergency responders transported the infant to a hospital with injuries, but authorities said she is expected to recover. The conditions of the two teenagers have not been fully disclosed, though no fatalities occurred.
Tulsa Police and Oklahoma Highway Patrol temporarily shut down portions of the roadway while crews accessed and cleared the crash site. Investigators say charges against the teenage driver are possible as the investigation continues.
Officials are urging drivers to exercise caution and ensure proper child restraints are used, noting that the outcome could have easily been far more tragic.
